Canine Shrine is a sanctuary dedicated to dogs and their
the wolf. The famous
canines enshrined here are Cujo, Bully,
Raiden, Bigby Wolf, Spuds MacKenzie, Yeller, and Marmaduke.
"Canine Shrine is a tribute to dogs and our love for them. The initial concept was a shrine built for dogs, more in appreciation of than for worship. The center of attention is the
wolf, ancestor of all dogs. Standing at attention is an honor guard of famous dogs. The ancient egyptian style statues may
have come to me subconciously. After completing the initial sketch, I
visualized the idea of a cat wandering into the shrine and being startled to see dogs. A cartoon cat in the style of Gary
Larson popped into my head. It was too funny not to use, but I designed the cat in a more realistic style. To compositionally
balance the cat, I added the moon in the sky. The moon tied the whole piece together as we associate wolves with a full moon."
