Spirit animals circle, spinning a tranquil web of light.
"I was reading an article about restored antique carousels. There was a photo of a carousel
lit up at night, which inspired me to do this painting. The proportions
of the tree I created match those of the carousel from the article. The trunk of the tree is the same width as the panels
that surround the center pole on the carousel. The glowing leaves line up with the lightbulbs. Wild animals of North America
replace the horses.
I saw a documentary
about white grizzly bears. Native Americans call them spirit animals. I searched online and discovered all the animals I used
have white varieties. Spirit animals have a mystical appearance, and I tried to portray that feeling in the background. Carousel
was painted using open acrylics."
