One morning Elijah awoke with a start.
Birds darted over his head,
animals ran up and over his hill, and passed out of sight behind
him. A bright fire blazed in
the forest before him. The smell of
smoke and ash was in the air. Elijah trembled and
"This was the second drawing in a tree portrait series I had planned to do. It was the first
painting I completed in the series. After I finished the drawing for this painting, I either lost inspiration for the series
or just ran out of good ideas. This was my favorite of the two drawings I did, and I even wrote a short children's story to
go along with it. The only place you actually see the fire is reflected in Elijah's eyes. Elijah and the Fire was painted
using open acrylics on watercolor board."
