The Mayapple Fairies are the gift of childhood. They gleefully dance to
the music of
innocence, and captivate others with their enchanting smiles.
"My inspiration for Dancing Under the Mayapples came while hiking in the Smoky Mountains with
my wife. We came across a hillside covered with mayapples. They looked like a bunch of little knee-high green umbrellas. They were so close together you couldn't see what was underneath them. I
thought, 'what a great place for fairies to hide and play'. This painting is the centerpiece of a triptych. There are two
mushroom fairies that bookend this painting. I originally painted this with watercolors in 2003, and painted over it with
more detail using acrylics in 2008."
